I love books. Do you? They are entertaining and a valuable investment. A book is priceless. Some say books are more valuable than any tech toy on the market. Why? Tech toys come and go. A book lasts forever.

1) You should read with clean hands. Did you know that the grease on your dirty hands gets on the pages? It might not seem like it, at first, but the grease is there. Wash your hands before your pick up your favorite book and start reading.
2) Be gentle with your books. Turn the pages carefully. You do not want to rip them. One ripped page can add depreciation to the book’s value.

6) You should keep your books away from the kids and pets. I know that sounds harsh, but trust me. They do not know what they are doing. You need to protect your assets, particularly the collector’s items. Some books are hard to find. Do you really want to pay double for a book you have already?
7) Books should not be left outside. The sun’s rays can do a lot of damage to your book, including damage to the ink, discoloration, and fading. Fading and discoloration are going to lower the value of the book. What happens if the book gets stuck out in the rain overnight? The book is ruined. You might need to pay double the original price to get the book back. Can you afford that?

FYI: What happens if the book does mildew? Try rubbing it with a dry cloth for 45 minutes. A second longer and the book will start to fade. Take it to someone who specializes in books if that does not work.
3) Dust outwardly. That way the dust does not get back into the spine. Dust imprints can devalue your books too.
