YouTube Created New Tool to Fight Disturbing Re-Uploads

YouTube is getting serious on fighting spammy and scammer’s channels on their platform, which only cares about re-uploading videos from other creators to earn profit. As part of their strategy, the video sharing company recently launched a new scanning tool. This tool will scan every single video on the site and check whether a video is re-uploaded or similar to at least an existing video.

YouTube itself is such a huge place. Billions of videos are watched every single day. There is a video for almost any topic, from education, politic, and other fabulous videos. The first ever YouTube’s copyright match, the way they said it, however will only work on full videos and not clips. It is still not clear on how this new tool works, but YouTube gave a small hint on it. The company said that every creator should make sure that they are the first one who upload the video to the platform. It is crucial to do that because it helps the copyright match tool to find out the original owner of a suspected re-uploaded video.

Let’s say this new tool finds your video is similar to a creator. YouTube said the new machine will offer 2 options. First, you can ignore the report, do nothing, and the video will be marked as copy of another creator’s video, and probably have a nice chat with the original creator. Second, you can ask YouTube to deal with the video and remove it for good from the platform.

For some people, this copyright match tool is a lot similar with the platform’s current Content ID program. In fact, both of them use the same if not similar technology. However, the company stressed that this new tool will specifically address unauthorized video re-upload. It addresses all videos from all kind of users, not specifically legal copyright owners as the Content ID addresses.

The new tool will roll on next week to all creators with at least 100,000 subscribers. If everything goes right, the social media company might expand the scope this year.
