5 Apps or Gadgets Your Pet Can Benefit From

The rise of the digital age hasn’t just made our lives more convenient, it can also make our pets lives more convenient as well. There is an app for everything these days and with technological advances, there is also a whole new range of pet gadgets on the market. While our pets mostly just need love, food and water, there are some mobile apps out there that can make both your pet and your lives easier.

Here are six apps or gadgets your pet can benefit from:

1. Whistle 3

Whistle 3 is basically a GPS tracker for your dog that also works in the same way a Fitbit works for a human, monitoring your pooch’s daily activities and movements. It is a small device you can attach to your pet’s collar which works in tandem with an app you download to your phone. You set up the app by designating a ‘safe place’ for your pet, such as your home, using Wi-Fi and then the app notifies you every time your pet leaves and comes back to this area. When your pet is out of range, the device uses a combination of cellular and GPS tracking to keep tabs on your pooch’s whereabouts. The app lets you see if your dog is getting the amount of exercise it needs and also recommends activities for your pup based on its breed, weight and age. It’s also a great way to track your pet if it has a tendency to escape!

2. Petzi Treat Cam

The Petzi Treat Cam is an app-controlled, WiFi-connected camera and treat dispenser. It allows you to check-in and interacts with your pet while you’re out and about from your phone so you can see if they’re behaving themselves or getting up to mischief while you’re gone. Is your dog staying off the couch? Is your cat causing a havoc knocking things off the counter? With this gadget, you find out for yourself and if they are behaving themselves, you can give them a treat as a reward. As well as this, you can use the camera to take photos of your pet when you’re away from home and then use the app to share these to social media (because we all know everyone loves a pet snap!). The camera also has night-cam settings so you can even see your pet in the pitch black if you’re out late.

3. Mad Paws

Going away on holiday and not sure what to do about your beloved cat or dog? When you go away, you don’t want to spend the whole time fretting about whether or not your pet is being properly looked after. Mad Paws was created so that pet owners could easily find affordable and local pet accommodation without the exorbitant prices associated with high-end pet boarding services or pet resorts. The app connects you with pet sitters in your area and sitters are all rated so you can ensure that you will be leaving your pet with someone trustworthy and caring who is going to love your pet just like you would. If your pet is more comfortable at their own home, you can have a sitter come to you or alternatively, you can drop your pet at the sitter’s home.

4. iKibble

Has your dog ever eaten something off the floor and you’ve had a moment of panic wondering ‘can he eat that?’ This is where iKibble comes in. Using the app you can scroll through common foods to find out if they are safe for your dog to eat or not. Foods have different health ratings so you can see what foods are good for your dog to eat and the health benefits they might have, as well as those foods which might be toxic or dangerous to your pup. With a built-in search function, you can easily find a specific food or browse foods based on their health rating. Using a doggy approval notification sound, you can find out straight away if a food is okay to feed your dog. There is also advice on when to feed your dog certain foods and some dog-friendly recipes so you can prepare your pooch an extra special feast!

5. APCC by ASPCA

The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center’s app is designed for dogs, cats, birds and houses and helps owners quickly identify over 300 potential everyday hazards and toxins, such as potentially harmful medications, toxic plants, warm and cold weather issues and more. The app works to show you the severity of the problem if your pet has consumed or come into contact with something toxic or hazardous and advises on what to do next and how critical your actions are. There are a searchable database and detailed information about each hazard or toxin. As well as this there is a color-coding feature so toxins of the highest concern are easily identifiable, a specific dog and chocolate poison-meter and a rodent-poison meter. You can also call the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center through the app if you are concerned about your pet’s welfare. All the information in the app come from toxicologists so you can trust that it is reliable.
